AFI Conservatory Application Deadline is December 1st!

Your best work starts here – as long as you submit your application on time!

If you are considering applying to the AFI Conservatory or have already started your application, you already know that AFI is more than an academic experience in the art of moviemaking. At AFI, filmmaking comes first, and Fellows actively participate in the entire life cycle of a film, from development through production and exhibition.

So, as the December 1st deadline for Conservatory applications nears, we asked our Admissions team for their top three tips to help you finish your application and get you started on your storytelling journey:

1) Don’t skimp on the narrative statement! It’s our only way to get to know you as a person (and a filmmaker). No need to write academically, write in your voice. Don’t write what you think we want to hear: that never works! Just be real and authentic to yourself.

2) Submit portfolio examples that best represent you as a storyteller. Make sure to adhere to the portfolio requirements and submit examples that showcase your craft.

3) Get in your completed application sooner rather than later! That way, we can help with any uploading issues and to allow your recommenders more time to get in their letters.

With that last tip ringing in your ears, be sure to finish your application as soon as you can. And for those who haven’t started yet, don’t wait any longer and get started by applying now HERE!
