Creative Ways to Empower Your Kids

As a homeschool mom of 5 boys and former mental health therapist, I firmly believe that it's essential to teach kids about emotions, self-expression, and empathy. These social emotional skills are incredibly important ways to enjoy healthy relationships, self-awareness, and positive well-being.

We learn how to identify emotions. And we practice ways to communicate how we're feeling and to observe how other people are feeling. These skills are not necessarily innate but are taught and observed.

Feelings can range from simple to complex. As an adult, I struggle at times to figure out just what it is that I'm feeling. Imagine how all of those emotions are for a child!

That's why I think it's important to find simple ways to help children learn about emotions. Activities and games (like these printables) make it easy to introduce, identify, and better understand feelings.

Benefits of Emotional Intelligence for Kids

Emotional intelligence (the awareness and regulation of emotions) are skills that empower a person throughout their life. These skills allow an individual to determine how they are feeling (and how it affects their thinking and feeling), as well as understanding of how others are feeling.
