NMC opens portal to submit applications for establishment of new medical colleges

NMC issues notice regarding applications by medical institutions seeking permission for the establishment of new medical colleges and the NMC draft.

NEW DELHI: The National Medical Commission (NMC) has reactivated the online portal for applications by medical institutions seeking permission for the establishment of new medical colleges and intake increase of MBBS and PG medical seats or starting new PG courses till December 23, 2022.

Previously, the last date for submitting applications for MBBS courses was August 31, 2022 while post graduate courses was July 20, 2022. Therefore, due to a large umber if applications and a short period available NMC notices that multiple colleges missed the opportunity to apply for the 2023-24 academic session.

According to the data shared by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), the number of medical colleges in India has risen by 67%, from 387 to 648, in the last eight years. Out of these seats 355 are government medical colleges and 293, private.

All concerned are requested to submit their applications on the NMC portal from December 15, 2022 till December 23, 2022. The applicants are required to submit the following documents-

In notice issued yesterday, December 14, 2022 NMC requested the stakeholders to provide their comment, if any on the a draft proposed amendment within 30 days since the release of the notice. The comments or inputs must be sent through the e-mail at- director.nmc@nmc.org.in in the MS Word format with the subject title- Comments on proposed draft amendment.

"Without Aadhar Enabled Biometric Attandance System (AEBAS) in place, further renewal, recognitions and continuation of recognition, further in seats and establishment of new medical colleges or new PG courses wouldn't be permitted. Sharing and access of AEBAS related registration and attendance of staff information with NMC through NMC's AEBAS related dashboard is mandatory for the medical colleges," said the the 'minimum requirements for annual MBBS admissions regulations, 2022 in the NMC draft.
